Did COVID-19 come from pesky bats?

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the respiratory illness responsible for the Covid-19 crisis. The World Health Organisation (WHO) officially declared Covid-19 a pandemic on 11 March 2020.

The Wuhan wet market is still reported as being the most likely hypothesis for the origin of the pandemic. According to The Times of India, a team of zoologists identified a viable conduit between the wet market in Wuhan and regions where the closest relatives of Covid-19 are found in bats. Despite theories from various sources that the disease leaked from virology labs in Wuhan, the commissioned scientists found no evidence in support of this.
