Did COVID-19 come from pesky bats?

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the respiratory illness responsible for the Covid-19 crisis. The World Health Organisation (WHO) officially declared Covid-19 a pandemic on 11 March 2020.

At first the Wuhan wet market was reported as being the most likely hypothesis for the origin of the pandemic. According to The Times of India, a team of zoologists identified a viable conduit between the wet market in Wuhan and regions where the closest relatives of Covid-19 are found in bats. Despite theories from various sources that the disease leaked from virology labs in Wuhan, the commissioned scientists found no evidence in support of this.
